July is dedicated to the Precious Blood of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. While the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Our Lord the Thursday (or in our case, Sunday) after the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, it is fitting to dedicate a month the the Blood of Our Lord after the month of His Sacred Heart. After all, in the Divine Mercy Chaplet we pray “O Blood and Water which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a foundation of mercy for us, I trust in You.” The Precious Blood after all, flows through the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Not only is the Heart of Jesus on fire with love for us, but Jesus himself tells us He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). Blood is the lifeforce for our biology. The very same life force for Jesus’ humanity flows through His Sacred Heart and was shed for us countless times, culminating on the Cross when His Sacred Heart was pierced by a lance. June celebrated Jesus’s love for humanity. July celebrates that which flows through that Heart. That which was shed for us as the final sacrifice to the Father in atonement for all of the sins of the world. It is the same Blood we receive in the Eucharist. Jesus’s Blood becomes part of us. Partaking in His Blood and Body allows Him to become part of us. We were washed in the Blood of the Lamb at Baptism and we are again washed in His Blood every time we receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Most Precious Blood was the price that God Himself gave for us to Him, so that we may be reconciled with Him. This month, see how you can incorporate the adoration and appreciation of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ in your spiritual life.
