The Knights of Columbus is a global organization of Catholic men. The organization is led by the Supreme Council, which is then divided into State Councils, Districts, and Local Councils. The principals of the order are Charity, Unity, and Fraternity. These principals are exemplified in the way we live our lives and interact with one another as Catholic gentlemen. The Knights of Columbus was founded by Blessed Father Michael McGivney in New haven Connecticut in 1882. Since then it has grown into a global organization. The Knights of Columbus was founded as a fraternal benefits society, designed to protect widows and orphans in the loss of the father and husband of the family. During the 1800s, this often meant financial ruin for the wife and children. Since then, the order has grown to service to each other, our Church, out community, and the wold, calling men to live their lives as authentic Catholics.

Our Council, 17028, was formed in 2018. Since, then, we have been serving the parish community of St. Philip the Apostle. We have assisted with many programs at the church. We have hosted parish movie nights, children’s Easter and Christmas parties, weekly rosary recitation and Bible studies. We also serve the community through various organizations like the Loft, A Woman’s Concern, Wreaths Across America, and Toys for Tots. Nationally, our council has supported the Special Olympics and has lent support to victims natural disasters both materially and financially.  Finally, we distribute Boxes of Joy to parishioners of St. Philip’s church, collect them, and send them to Cross Catholic Outreach to be sent to children in third world countries.

In addition to the things done by our council, our members are active in the St. Philip Parish, serving as lectors, cantors, catechists, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, and ushers. We are blessed to have the Pastor of St. Philips, Father Sherdel, and Deacon Francis Philips as members as well. Our council members have also worked to reinstate the Youth Group at St Philip’s Church.
