Praying for an End to Violence

Brother Knights,
I write this not to step into the weeds of politics or to endorse a certain political ideology or another. I write this instead to ask us all to pray after the assassination of Charlie Kirk yesterday. No matter anyone’s opinion on him or what he said, the world lost a father, a husband, a son, and a Christian. Pray for the repose of his soul, his family and loved ones, and all those present at the shooting who will forever be scarred by this event. The knights were founded in a time with Catholics could not express their views publicly. The events of yesterday show that sometimes in America, expressing one’s views in a public setting can still have dire consequences. The violence of what happened goes against the very values on which this country was founded and the values our order holds dear. It also violates the inherent dignity of the human person, made in the image and likeness of God. Pray for peace in our country, that we may be a place where respectful public discourse can include disagreement without violence. And even if it’s hard, pray for the person who did this. God’s mercy is available to all.
